River Children
An in depth view of what it was like to be a child growing up in the small town of "Old" Kernville, California. Two cousins share their experiences with the quirky people, places, events, laughter, innocence, dangers and just plain fun of an enchanting time on the banks of the Kern River in the Sierra Nevada Mountains north of Los Angeles. Sixty years later, Barbara Hinkey and Pat McPherson have chronicled that magical time in the late 1940’s in the town that disappeared off maps when it made way for the Lake Isabella reservoir; but never out of their memories. There are many anecdotes that makes one think about the towns and cities we live in today, and the memories our children will have of their childhood that will guide them as they become adults.

Get your copy today, and read about their youthful adventures along
with other River Children in this unusual and delightful book.
Now, Barbara lives in Graham, Washington, close to her children. Pat lives in Ojai California, with his wife near their children, and has a cabin in the Greenhorn Mountains, close by the Kern River. Both cousins and their families still visit the area often and intend to remain River Children forever. Join them for some great stories and insight what this town was all about.
